What is a King Cake?
A King cake is a mix between a coffee cake and cinnamon roll baked in a circle that can come stuffed with fruit, cream cheese or icing. It is round, sometimes braided and commonly finished with green, gold and purple sanding sugar on top of icing. Knoxville King Cake currently offers a round, unbraided cinnamon King Cake with icing.

When is “King Cake Season”?
In New Orleans, King Cake season starts the day after the 12th night epiphany (ya know, 12 nights after Christmas) and runs until Mardis Gras day. Mardis Gras Day changes each year and Mardi Gras season can be “short” ending in early February or “long” ending in March. In Louisiana it is uncommon to see a King Cake outside of the winter months. We’ll make ya a cake whenever though, just don’t tell the bayou folk.

So why the hell is there a baby?
The baby traditionally represents Jesus. I’m of the opinion the baby also represents chaos. Traditionally if you receive or choose a slice with the King Cake Baby in it, you have to buy the next King Cake for your group. We place the King Cake in your box outside of the cake to make sure you can place it yourself for maximum fun (and so you dont choke on it and try to sue us). If you dont want the baby, chuck it!
